SASSY

Lauren: So what led you guys to start running a bar.

John: Well we had Ca- it was Carol's for years.

Lauren: Right, right.

John: And it was a lesbian bar. And it was just kind of dumpy and dark and, you know, I never found it to be inviting, you know. And I was always -

-  it always upset me that, you know, we didn't have a nice gay bar in Springfield.

Lauren: Yeah.

John: We only - you know, we had two seedy places to go.

Lauren: Yeah.

John: But I felt like we're human, too, and we deserve to have a nice place to go to.

Lauren: Right

John: So two gay guys had purchased the bar from Carol. And we hadn't gone down because we really weren't bar people.

Bill: Surprisingly.

John: Yeah. And we went down there. And we went down there and it was like -

- “oh, wow.”

You know, they had they had really dolled it up - it was like yeah! Finally we have a decent bar you go to, you know. You know, we'd been in there a few times, it was really glad to see that, you know, that we finally had a good place - “we” I mean the gay people and we - turned out it was going up for sale and I drag him kicking and screaming to it.

Lauren: So was your main motivation, John,

behind that to - to have, like to keep a nice place -

John: Yes.

Lauren: - for the gay community?

John: Yeah. I thought it was a great opportunity

John: to expose people -

- straight people to the bar. I thought, you know, there is lots of opportunity to add my own touches to it.

Awe.

John: Oooh. She's getting sassy.

Lauren: She getting grumpy?

John: She's getting sassy. So, yes, it was just to keep it. Because I thought it'd be a shame to lose it.

(Paisley talking in background)

Paisley: baby.

Bill: (whispering) Paisley.

Paisley: No - (singing to herself)

Bill: Just put her down. (Paisley continues singing to herself)

Bill: Did you poopy?

Bill: Go ahead.

(Paisley banging toy and starting to fuss in distance)

(Paisley starts to cry)

Paisley: (crying) No!

Bill: Daddy with go back there with you. I’ll go back there with you.

Paisley: (loud cry) No!

Bill: Look, Daddy will go back there with you.

Paisley: (crying) Dada!

Bill: Wanna play?

Paisley: (loud scream) No!

(Paisley gets farther away but continues to fuss)
