WE’RE HUMAN TOO
Lauren: So what led you guys to start running a bar? (Paisley talking in background)
John: Well we had Ca- it was Carol's for years.
Lauren: Right, right.
John: And it was a lesbian bar. And it was just kind of dumpy and dark and, you know, I never found it to be inviting, you know. And I was always - it always upset me that, you know, we didn't have a nice gay bar in Springfield.
Lauren: Yeah.
John: We only - you know, we had two seedy places to go. But I felt - like we're human too, and we deserve to have a nice place to go to. So two gay guys had purchased the bar from Carol. And we hadn't gone down because we really weren't bar people.
Bill: Surprisingly.
John: Yeah. And we went down there. And we went down there and it was like - oh, wow. You know, they had they had really dolled it up - it was like yeah! Finally we have a decent bar you go to, you know. You know, we'd been in there a few times, it was really glad to see that, you know, that we finally had a good place - “we” I mean the gay people and we - turned out it was going up for sale and I drag him kicking and screaming to it. (banging and gaga noises from the baby in background)
Lauren: So was your main motivation, John, (baby starts crying) behind that to - to have, like to keep a nice place -
John: Yes.
Lauren: - for the gay community?
John: Yeah. I thought it was a great opportunity to expose people -straight people to the bar. I thought, you know, there is lots of opportunity to add my own touches to it. (baby screaming for "Dada") Awe.
Bill: (to Paisley) You want to play?
Paisley: NO!
John: Oh. She's getting sassy.
Lauren: She getting grumpy?
John: She's getting sassy. (baby continues to scream for Dada) So, yes, it was just to keep it. Because I thought it'd be a shame to lose it.
